What Is The Last Alaskans About?
The Last Alaskans is an American reality television series. The series premiered on Animal Planet on May 25, 2015. The second season premiered on the Discovery Channel on April 12, 2016. The fourth season premiered on the Discovery Channel on November 25, 2018. The series follows several families and trappers who live in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska.

“Though I say so myself it was a rather fine show, well done, tasteful, moderate, visually very attractive, family-oriented and about as authentic as it gets in non-scripted TV. It was a blue-chip show and had a strong following of extremely loyal viewers, who seemed to have really bonded with and taken something meaningful from the series. Many have wondered why it was canceled and if there is any hope of its eventual return. ”

Can't believe The Last Alaskans has been cancelled. It is the very best show on TV. Why are the best shows always getting cancelled. I have been waiting all year for it to return. So disappointed to learn it had been cancelled. Why not listen to the people and bring it back? Why would you cancel it anyway?

They would rather have useless shows like Naked & Afraid on. nothing good like The Last Alaskans. Time to quit watching and paying for TV. All there is left is men kissing men shows. even the Hallmark channel is going to put crap like that on so our kids will be brainwashed into thinking this is ok.

The Last Alaskans is the best show my wife and I have seen in years. Most of Discoverys programs pale in comparison. Most we don't care to watch ever. Please bring the Last Alaskans back.
Well, it has been a little over three months since I moved back to my former Arctic home in Bettles, Alaska where I have no internet and could not continue watching "The Last Alaskans" . My wife and I flew south to Fairbanks to spend time with our two adult daughters at Christmas and when I tried to watch the show I read that someone had decided to cancel the show. I actually yelled out "What, that's crazy" to no one in particular. I have met everyone on the cast except Krin's husband. I knew Heimo when he was dating Edna. Charlie did homeschool activities with my two daughters when they were elementary school age. These people are the Real Deal: authentic, skilled, tenacious, and honest. What you see is who they are. As a veteran Alaskan Brooks Range trapper since 1974, I know a bit about the mindset and challenges of living and trapping above the Arctic Circle. That said, I can tell you without reservation that these people are no amateurs. It warms my heart that I read so many compliments for them and about the show being unique among a host of fake reality shows. Their personal daily lives have more challenges and genuine drama than all the other "reality" shows combined. Thank God that we don't have to endure story lines like a narrator saying "If Charlie does not remember to take his headlight with him to the water hole and turn it on in time, he might fall in and slide under the ice and drown." {Dramatic music follows) Leave that type of scripted drama to Alaska Bush People. Though I am truly furious with the Discovery exec's who decided "Lets cancel this show", my sincere compliments to the film crew and the music folks who allow peace and a pace in the filming that is more in tune with the beauty, the wildness, and sometimes, yes, the danger in the everyday lives of the cast. I am unsure of the real reason Discovery wants to cancel the show. If they don't think it is sustainable because of the few people who have permits in ANWR, then they could modify the title to something like "Arctic Alaska Trappers" and that might provide a larger pool of potential cast members. However you do it, I believe with everything in me that cancelling this show will be a huge mistake. Thanks, Trapper Dave
I am very disappointed that the show will not be returning. I was looking forward to Krin and her family becoming a large part of the show. Please bring it back! We need wholesome shows like that and to keep Bob in our thoughts. He is missed.
