What Is The Last Alaskans About?
The Last Alaskans is an American reality television series. The series premiered on Animal Planet on May 25, 2015. The second season premiered on the Discovery Channel on April 12, 2016. The fourth season premiered on the Discovery Channel on November 25, 2018. The series follows several families and trappers who live in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska.

“Though I say so myself it was a rather fine show, well done, tasteful, moderate, visually very attractive, family-oriented and about as authentic as it gets in non-scripted TV. It was a blue-chip show and had a strong following of extremely loyal viewers, who seemed to have really bonded with and taken something meaningful from the series. Many have wondered why it was canceled and if there is any hope of its eventual return. ”

I've been a devoted follower of "The Last Alaskans" since its first episode & even now at age 65 after growing up hunting & fishing to escape a truly evil stepfather, the unscripted reality of each & every episode is a breath of fresh air in a world that has become so bereft of real-life emotions & true human interaction of value.
The Last Alaskans is honest, unscripted, full of refreshing values topped with truth, & superb human-to-human communication. It provides us the best real life example about how all of humanity's communication & interaction should occur. It is full of true love – that of marriage & of parents w/children, love of all the "working" animals, love/respect/stewardship of our natural world, respect & honor to/for those wild animals that sacrifice their lives so the families can keep food on the table or make warm clothes from the furs & skins or trap to bring in some income. There is purity in this kind of life & living, & I continue watching all the episodes over & over again & hoping/praying that this wonderful program will never come to an end before I do now that I'm in my twilight years. It is a template for a simple yet very challenging way of life, & I personally feel each & every emotion from the history of the loss of the Korth's daughter Colleen to the philosophies & death of Bob Harte, to the joy I see in the eyes of Tyler & Ashley Selden in their love for each other, to the desire of Krin's husband Scott to prove to Heimo & Edna he can take care of Krin & their own child, & so much more I could write volumes about & never stop. This show is far better than reading about Daniel Boone or Davy Crockett or even Jack London's books like "White Fang" in my childhood. Do you know the CBS so-called "reality" TV show "Survivor" is almost 20 years & 40 seasons old now & it doesn't hold a candle up to The Last Alaskans by comparison. Please renew this show indefinitely, following the authentic life & death reality from which so many of us here in the western world are sheltered. The Last Alaskans fills us with anticipation for EVERY episode, it forces us to examine our inner "self" if we have a heart to first love & accept ourselves as we are & to then love & accept others for who they are, & we are all better human beings from having shared in the lives of these wonderful families/individuals even though it is from afar. To Bob Harte, RIP, & someday soon I hope when my earthly days are done to join you for a moose hunt on the other side followed by a few cold beers. And to those who read my post, please forgive my pen name/moniker though it's quite appropriate as to the twinkle occasionally seen in my eyes! May the good Lord bless all you Last Alaskans fans & thank you for all your uplifting comments about the show! MM
Last Alaskans is truly a good family series we would hate to see that canceled I know a lot of family’s who watch it and would hate to see it canceled
I love this show and the thought of not knowing the rest of the stories fills me with sorrow. Please don't bag on my favorite show Survivor. They are very two different shows. It is one of the shows I'm going to hell for. I need The Last Alaskans to even me out.

The Last Alaskans shows hard working people who live with good honest values in alignment with nature and the land. It is as much a show about family as it it about the challenges of living in the Alaskan Artic Reserve. In a time when our country is so divided and looking inward at our differences, rather than what unites us, the Last Alaskans is a reminder of how living a simple life in alignment with nature can be a path to a healthier, happier and more sustainable life.

Please avoid the temptation to invest in shows about fancy houses, snarky people hunting for gold and/or gaudy over-sized pools. The Last Alaskans is about real life. That is always a compelling story.

Naked and Afraid,crap,there are medical personal close by.There are rangers with guns.Junk T.V. Garage Monkey,the worst show you have.Glorifying a guy who drinks and drives,just what I want my kids watching.The Browns,that is,I'm sorry the worst show on T.V. Fake T.V. does'nt describe it.Thieves,liars,who knows what else but it is not good.
Your company is blessed with families that work for everything they have,food,shelter,trap in Sub 0 temperatures for fur to make money.These are things I want my children to learn.Just a fabulous decision,taking a prime family show off the air.
I watched your scum shows once and turn the channel now when they come on.I will continue to watch the shows that are family friendly.But have lost the respect I once had for your company.I wish you would reconsider,but I think these people are better than that and do not need your channel.Some other channel will pick this show up when your contracts run out.
Please renew “The Last Alaskans” It is by far the best show on Discovery! This summer my family made a trip to Alaska. To my surprise in Fairbanks I found myself in one of the cabins Bob Harte built. Inside the cabin there’s a photo of him and a short story. I felt as though I knew him through your show. It was an emotional experience. Also Heimo is originally from the area of Wisconsin I’m from. We all can learn a lesson from the love, respect, overcoming challenges and hard work that these family’s show us!
I’m very sorry to hear “The last Alaskans” is not being renewed. I hate to lose my favorite show. The protagonists are very genuine and believable, many times blowing my emotions all over the place. I hope someone picks up the show.
This is by far the best show on TV. The camera crew does such an excellent job in very harsh conditions. The show where they showed a little of what they go thru was very interesting. Please consider bringing it back.
I was very disappointed that Discovery doesn't realize what a great hit they had on their hands. This show and the characters within it are one of the truest detections of a reality TV show I have ever seen they are so down to earth and human and wonderful and I'm going to miss this show like crazy. In fact I will not even watch the Discovery Channel anymore I am so disgusted with what they've done. They wouldn't know a great show if it came and bit them in the blankety-blank. Instead they choose to show shows about greed as in bering sea gold and gold rush, then there is Street Outlaws, Naked and Afraid so uplifting for us all, Moonshiners another fascinating show xcetera. They do still have on two shows about Alaska both have been on for 10 seasons and 9 Seasons respectively and that's it. So I don't understand why they canceled this show that was so much better than everything else they have together combined. I just don't understand and I doubt we will ever get an explanation as to why they really canceled it.
I mean no disrespect but, have you lost your mind? Why in GOD's name have you not renewed a wonderful show like THE LAST ALASKANS and yet you leave trash like alaskan Bush people and naked and afraid. I am at a total loss of understanding. PLEASE WAKE UP AND RENEW: THE LAST ALASKANS!!.
