Date Set: When Does Sanditon Season 2 Start?
Sanditon Season 2
Was Sanditon cancelled or renewed for season 2? When does it start on PBS? Who will be returning for the new season? In this post, we have summarized everything we know so far about the next season.
What Is Sanditon About?
The TV series is a bold continuation of Jane Austen’s final, unfinished novel. Season 1 follows newcomer Charlotte Heywood’s arrival in town, and her budding friendships and romantic possibilities. Charlotte’s epic journey continues in Season 2, which explores the classic predicament of a young, independent woman making her way in the world.
Fans and friends, we’re thrilled to share with you everything we know so far about the upcoming second season of Sanditon! New storylines, new characters, returning faces (both good and devious), plus some early, sneak peek images to feast your eyes upon. Mark your calendars, set your reminders, and let the countdown begin for the premiere on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at 9/8c on MASTERPIECE on PBS.
Sanditon, the fan-favorite drama inspired by Jane Austen’s final, unfinished novel is back for Season 2, premiering Sunday, March 20, 2022, 9/8c. After the first season’s finale left viewers hanging in suspense, the story continues with its high-spirited heroine, Charlotte Heywood, returning to the picturesque coastal resort of Sanditon and the companionship of her friend Georgiana Lambe. What adventures, scandals, intrigue and above all else — romance — await Miss Heywood this season?
Joining the Season 2 cast: Ben Lloyd-Hughes (Industry) as Alexander Colbourne, a handsome and enigmatic local recluse; Tom Weston-Jones (Shadow and Bone) as dynamic Colonel Francis Lennox; Rosie Graham (Outlander) as Charlotte’s hopeless romantic sister Alison; Frank Blake (Normal People) as diffident Captain Declan Fraser; Maxim Ays (Still So Awkward) as Captain William Carter; and Alexander Vlahos (Versailles) plays Sanditon’s Bohemian artist, Charles Lockhart.
The all-new season picks up the action nine months after the end of Season 1, when some hearts were left broken, some were soaring, and the town’s future was not so clear. But time tends to heal most wounds. The town of Sanditon is growing in popularity as new faces arrive on the scene to join our beloved seaside community. After a tearful departure at the end of Season 1, Charlotte Heywood finds her way back to the beautiful seaside resort. Despite her heartache, her life moves forward, and she catches the attention of not one, but two new suitors in town. And Charlotte has not arrived in town alone; she is accompanied by her spirited younger sister Alison, who is starry eyed and on the hunt for her own love story. Meanwhile, Georgiana Lambe, on the cusp of turning 21, is as driven as ever to forge her own identity. Independent, outspoken, and rebellious as always, she finds herself once again up to mischief in the name of love. But will it be worth it? Sanditon’s grand visionary Tom Parker is doing all that he can to rebuild the town after the events of last season. But between unforeseen issues and the secrets and lies of the dysfunctional Denhams, his task is no easy one — perhaps even an impossible one. To top it all off, the Army arrives to make their new base in Sanditon, bringing new potential romances, friendships, and challenges for the residents we know and love.
You heard it here first: Season 2 premieres Sunday, March 20, 2022 at 9/8c on MASTERPIECE on PBS. There will be six episodes. Plenty of your favorite Sanditon residents are back for the all-new season! Here are some of the Season 1 cast members you will get reacquainted with in Season 2. Rose Williams returns as Charlotte Heywood, who we last saw departing the seaside town with a broken heart. Crystal Clarke returns as Georgiana Lambe, a woman who wants nothing more than to lead her own life. Kris Marshall is back as Tom Parker, the optimistic but often overzealous dreamer and leader of the town. Anne Reid returns as Lady Denham, alive, healthy, and opinionated as ever. Jack Fox is back as the devious and not-quite-honorable Edward Denham, who was last on the outs with his aunt and his step-sister after trying to scam Lady Denham for her fortune. Charlotte Spencer returns as the strong-minded Esther Babbington, nee Denham, who found love at the end of Season 1. Lily Sacofsky also returns as the deceitful Clara Brereton, whose true nature was uncovered last we saw. Turlough Convery is back as Arthur Parker, Tom’s charismatic brother. Kevin Eldon and Adrian Scarborough also return as Mr. Hankins and Dr. Fuchs, respectively.
What would the lively town be without a few fresh, new faces arriving? Ben Lloyd-Hughes (Industry) joins the cast as Alexander Colbourne, a mysterious newcomer in town with a complicated past, and is one suitor after the attention of Charlotte. Also fighting for her affections is war hero Colonel Francis Lennox (Tom Weston-Jones, Grace), the self-assured, starkly opposite to Colbourne. But will Charlotte be ready for romance, again? Rosie Graham (Outlander) joins the gang as Charlotte’s sister Alison, another young woman with big dreams of her own, who is setting out on her first adventure away from home. Catching her eye is the handsome and charming Captain William Carter, played by Maxin Ays (Still So Awkward), one of the new Army soldiers settling into town. And the new Army pals don’t end there: Frank Blake (Normal People) joins as Captain Declan Fraser, who’s a bit rough around the edges. Lastly, Alexander Vlahos (Versailles) will play the striking Charles Lockhart, an artist who has come to paint some of the more…well, shall we say, fashionable folk of the town.
Get ready for more sand, more sun, and more beachy vibes! According to Somerset Live, filming for the second season spanned across the rolling hills and coastline of the scenic, southwestern English county. Dare we say…could any place be better suited to set the scene for the fictional resort? Season 1 was filmed in a number of historical locations, from St. James Church in Littleton, to Bowood House, to Dyrham Park and Iford Mansion. Yes, it must be brought back. Lady Susan can save sandition, Sidney, and Charlotte . Mr.Davis can figure out the loose ends for the others????
Please bring back season 2 and finish it Jane Austen style. What a wonderful love story to have it end like it did. I agree there is at least another season of tying things together. This is a romance story that the viewers deserve to see a happy ending. I was so sad to see how it ended. I am optimistic it will return.
I love the show. . Disappointed it is not being renrwed.
Disappointed to see Season 2 has been cancelled. It has become my favorite of the week. Hope you will reconsider if there is enough response.
Please please bring back Sanditon season 2. It’s got to come for a second season! Fell in love with this!!
Sandition season 2 please please please. I absolutely love this show….the best since Downton Abbey.
Do NOT cancel Sanditon! You must end the story in true Austenian fashion … season 1 did not do that …
I really wish I had known no 2nd season before I started to watch! To leave it unfinished means I'll have to buy the book..
I just finished watching season one of Sandition and I'm upset to learn that it isn't coming back for season 2
I would love to see more SANDITON, & Theo James, a fine actor, & of course Rose Williams
I'm soooooo disappointed there's no season 2! I've enjoyed Sanditon as much as Victoria, maybe a little more. Bring it back!!!????
If Sanditon is cancelled I will never watch Masterpiece again!
Please bring Season2. Love the story, characters and setting. Wonderful!!!
Just saw Episode 8..in tears! It was soo good and can't possibly end like this! You have a chance to have another Downton Abbey with the amazing characters and the seaside village. Please. Go for more seasons/episodes.
Why in the world would they cancel season 2????? We love Sanditon! It has filled in where Downtown Abbey left off!! It’s mesmerizing!!!
Please let Sanditon return. There is so much left to be developed in the relationships!! Please bring it back!!
Loved Sanditon!! Aggravated there is secured second season! If that’s true, you shouldn’t have shown it AT ALL!
You can't leave this ending like this. Please give us season 2 of Sanditon. I loved it.
You can't leave us hanging like this. There must be a season 2! Jane Austen's story must be finished. It is not every day that a show like this comes along. Us viewers who love this type of programming beg you for a season 2!
Loved Sanditon! You shouldn’t have even aired the first series if hadn’t intended to continue it! That’s how good it was. Other Maher channels can’t compare anything yet air to Sanditon!!!
Ohhh puhleez!!!
We Davies/Eaton fans will absolutely not be able to carry on without a few more seasons of Sanditon.
There are so many unanswered questions. There are simply too many hanging threads and untold stories for these
Incredible characters created by Jan Austen and who better to finish the book and saga than Andrew Davies.
We need another wonderful wonderful saga from Andrew Davies for the legacy toontinue.
Sanditon is the perfect venue.
We have lost Downton, Poldark, and Victoria.
I have my own sets of dvd’s for all of the above.
I am going to purchase Sanditon as soon as it is on dvd.
Please do not forsake your audience.
I really enjoyed watching Sanditon this season. I would love to see its sequel.
Season 2 a must! To caught up in this story and characters to end this way!
What a GREAT show. You must bring it back for season two .I cannot believe that PBS cancelled it before they even showed it.
Are you kidding me? This is such a wonderful period piece that needs a second/third season. Most people usually don’t hear about it till it’s imprinted visually and tell others about it. M S A H is a good example. Friends brought me into Downton Abbey after multiple episodes.
PBS, wake up and smell the episodes.
nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!! bring it back!!!!
I agree with the above comments! I have watched each of the 8 episodes at least twice . Love the acting and story and all the characters. Please bring on another session!!!!
I have fallen in love with this series!! I have to have more. I love the characters. My heart broke for Sidney and Charlotte's love. Season 2 please!
Sanditon season 1 ended with too many loose ends and needs to be continued in order to resolve them. What of Miss Lambe? An intriguing character whose background has never been fully explained. What of the engaging Lady Susan and her "friend"? Are they to return to Sanditon? This ending is too un-Austen. She would never have ended the story with Sanditon still in ruins. Sanditon is the main character and it's status is unresolved at the end of this season. As is the gate of Charlotte. Why present this to us if it is unfinished? We should not be left dangling.
I loved this series. They did a great job with this unfinished Austin story. They just can’t leave it unfinished again!! My daughters and I are Americans and loved every moment. We enjoyed discussing our favorite and least favorite characters. They must make a second season!! It cannot be left undone!!
