Date Set: When Does Sanditon Season 2 Start?
Sanditon Season 2
Was Sanditon cancelled or renewed for season 2? When does it start on PBS? Who will be returning for the new season? In this post, we have summarized everything we know so far about the next season.
What Is Sanditon About?
The TV series is a bold continuation of Jane Austen’s final, unfinished novel. Season 1 follows newcomer Charlotte Heywood’s arrival in town, and her budding friendships and romantic possibilities. Charlotte’s epic journey continues in Season 2, which explores the classic predicament of a young, independent woman making her way in the world.
Fans and friends, we’re thrilled to share with you everything we know so far about the upcoming second season of Sanditon! New storylines, new characters, returning faces (both good and devious), plus some early, sneak peek images to feast your eyes upon. Mark your calendars, set your reminders, and let the countdown begin for the premiere on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at 9/8c on MASTERPIECE on PBS.
Sanditon, the fan-favorite drama inspired by Jane Austen’s final, unfinished novel is back for Season 2, premiering Sunday, March 20, 2022, 9/8c. After the first season’s finale left viewers hanging in suspense, the story continues with its high-spirited heroine, Charlotte Heywood, returning to the picturesque coastal resort of Sanditon and the companionship of her friend Georgiana Lambe. What adventures, scandals, intrigue and above all else — romance — await Miss Heywood this season?
Joining the Season 2 cast: Ben Lloyd-Hughes (Industry) as Alexander Colbourne, a handsome and enigmatic local recluse; Tom Weston-Jones (Shadow and Bone) as dynamic Colonel Francis Lennox; Rosie Graham (Outlander) as Charlotte’s hopeless romantic sister Alison; Frank Blake (Normal People) as diffident Captain Declan Fraser; Maxim Ays (Still So Awkward) as Captain William Carter; and Alexander Vlahos (Versailles) plays Sanditon’s Bohemian artist, Charles Lockhart.
The all-new season picks up the action nine months after the end of Season 1, when some hearts were left broken, some were soaring, and the town’s future was not so clear. But time tends to heal most wounds. The town of Sanditon is growing in popularity as new faces arrive on the scene to join our beloved seaside community. After a tearful departure at the end of Season 1, Charlotte Heywood finds her way back to the beautiful seaside resort. Despite her heartache, her life moves forward, and she catches the attention of not one, but two new suitors in town. And Charlotte has not arrived in town alone; she is accompanied by her spirited younger sister Alison, who is starry eyed and on the hunt for her own love story. Meanwhile, Georgiana Lambe, on the cusp of turning 21, is as driven as ever to forge her own identity. Independent, outspoken, and rebellious as always, she finds herself once again up to mischief in the name of love. But will it be worth it? Sanditon’s grand visionary Tom Parker is doing all that he can to rebuild the town after the events of last season. But between unforeseen issues and the secrets and lies of the dysfunctional Denhams, his task is no easy one — perhaps even an impossible one. To top it all off, the Army arrives to make their new base in Sanditon, bringing new potential romances, friendships, and challenges for the residents we know and love.
You heard it here first: Season 2 premieres Sunday, March 20, 2022 at 9/8c on MASTERPIECE on PBS. There will be six episodes. All eight episodes of Season 1 are now available on PBS Passport, an added member benefit. With PBS Passport, you get extended access to a digital, on-demand library of more than 1,500 episodes of PBS favorites, including select MASTERPIECE shows. You can watch Sanditon Season 1 now on the MASTERPIECE Amazon Channel (available to Amazon Prime members for an additional monthly cost). You can also watch it via Apple, Comcast, Google Play, FandangoNOW, Verizon and Vudu. Also, you can buy the Season 1 DVD here, plus the The World of Sanditon: The Official Companion hardcover book here, both from Shop.PBS.org.
Plenty of your favorite Sanditon residents are back for the all-new season! Here are some of the Season 1 cast members you will get reacquainted with in Season 2. Rose Williams returns as Charlotte Heywood, who we last saw departing the seaside town with a broken heart. Crystal Clarke returns as Georgiana Lambe, a woman who wants nothing more than to lead her own life. Kris Marshall is back as Tom Parker, the optimistic but often overzealous dreamer and leader of the town. Anne Reid returns as Lady Denham, alive, healthy, and opinionated as ever. Jack Fox is back as the devious and not-quite-honorable Edward Denham, who was last on the outs with his aunt and his step-sister after trying to scam Lady Denham for her fortune. Charlotte Spencer returns as the strong-minded Esther Babbington, nee Denham, who found love at the end of Season 1. Lily Sacofsky also returns as the deceitful Clara Brereton, whose true nature was uncovered last we saw. Turlough Convery is back as Arthur Parker, Tom’s charismatic brother. Kevin Eldon and Adrian Scarborough also return as Mr. Hankins and Dr. Fuchs, respectively.
What would the lively town be without a few fresh, new faces arriving? Ben Lloyd-Hughes (Industry) joins the cast as Alexander Colbourne, a mysterious newcomer in town with a complicated past, and is one suitor after the attention of Charlotte. Also fighting for her affections is war hero Colonel Francis Lennox (Tom Weston-Jones, Grace), the self-assured, starkly opposite to Colbourne. But will Charlotte be ready for romance, again? Rosie Graham (Outlander) joins the gang as Charlotte’s sister Alison, another young woman with big dreams of her own, who is setting out on her first adventure away from home. Catching her eye is the handsome and charming Captain William Carter, played by Maxin Ays (Still So Awkward), one of the new Army soldiers settling into town. And the new Army pals don’t end there: Frank Blake (Normal People) joins as Captain Declan Fraser, who’s a bit rough around the edges. Lastly, Alexander Vlahos (Versailles) will play the striking Charles Lockhart, an artist who has come to paint some of the more…well, shall we say, fashionable folk of the town.
Get ready for more sand, more sun, and more beachy vibes! According to Somerset Live, filming for the second season spanned across the rolling hills and coastline of the scenic, southwestern English county. Dare we say…could any place be better suited to set the scene for the fictional resort? Season 1 was filmed in a number of historical locations, from St. James Church in Littleton, to Bowood House, to Dyrham Park and Iford Mansion. I am SO angry that Sanditon ended this way. Or did it. There MUST be another season!
Sanditon was awesome! As good as Downton Abbey. It must have future seasons
So much more to explore. Terrible, the story stopping so abruptly .must have at least a season 2!!!!!!!!
Please bring back Sanditon for a season 2! Even if it’s just for the US only!
Yes, please. We all await the return of "Sanditon" for a second season!
Give us a second season of Sanditon. It is a superior production–rich in characters and their stories, excellent acting, elegant costumes and settings. However, it did not end as we all expected–it is still unfinished. Give us a Jane Austen ending.
I cannot believe PBS would be so cruel as to leave us with such a horrible ending to an Austen story. There has to be a way to bring us Season 2 and a more satisfying conclusion.
Sanditon must have season 2 to get Charlotte and Sidney together. It was heart breaking as it was left. Eliza needs to be put in her place.
I must have Season 2! Please make it happen!
I watched all episodes, and even some of the second showings on my PBS station. It finished tonight and I would start watching it again immediately to pick up the little details I'm sure I missed the first time around. I can imagine several story lines myself, so I know there are more to explore from excellent writers. I am patiently waiting for Season 2.
There's much more story to tell and a definitely happier ever after ending, Jane Austin style. Please bring Sanditon back for another season.
Please don’t cancel, we need a happy ending!!!!! Someone please write a season 2
I loved Sanditon..Want to see what happens with Charlotte..she deserves a happy ending.
Also Sidney to sacrifice happiness for his family…The chemistry between the 2 was awesome . Please bring it back!
I watch PBS all the time. It is unbelievable that they would not want to have a second season of Sanditon. This series was one of the best. In this world we need to see an example of love. They need to get together, it gives us all hope. This is the only CD that I have purchased. Please have season 2
Noooooo! You absolutely must continue this wonderful story with all the rich characters. We must know what the future holds for so many of them……
So disappointed that there will not be a Sanditon 2! It was a wonderful series that could have gone very far!
Sanditon must get another go! Surely Lady Susan's cunning can stop the marriage of Sidney and Eliza Campion (spelling?), and find another investor to save the day. In her stroll with Charlotte at the regatta, we see hints of Lady Susan's possible settling of an old score with Eliza. Let the machinations begin!
Sanditon needs to have a season 2
There are so many different ways it could unfold!! We want to know what happens!!
Omg! How can it end this way! We need more! So much storyline yet for these characters! Season 2 please with many to follow!
Jane Austin is turning in her grave!!! What were they thinking? If you are not going to bring it back for a full season, at least have the professional integrity and respect for Jane Austin's memory, and give the fans (and history) a final couple of episodes. That should be enough to give the fans a real Jane Austin ending(and closure).
I really hope you have a second season of Sanditon. I haven’t been excited for a tv series since Little House on the Prairie. Please have a second season. Season one was absolutely wonderful. I love the characters and the actors playing Mr. Sydney Parker and Charlotte Haywood.
Please bring another season or two or three of Sanditon!,
Please bring back Sanditon for a season 2. It would disappointing for us PBS Masterpiece Theatre fans, if the BBC not to further develop other characters in the series who need their story told. I would love to see the BBC producers argue with Lady Denton in Sanditon.
I love this show. Great idea to have Lady Susan save Sanditon & Sidney and Charlotte must get together! Maybe even Sidney’s ward helps?! Please make more shows. I have been telling everyone about it!
We must start season two so we can see what happens to sand it in and particularly to Sydney and Charlotte. I understand you want to make this a more modern updated version but we really need to regard Jane Austen and the need for a happy ending for Sydney and Charlotte. I love the romance between Lord Babington and Esther, it was truly lovely. We need to know what’s going to happen to Miss Lambe
What an awful ending if this is the final season.
Please don't leave us hanging! Film a second season! I'm a big Masterpiece fan, and would love to see another season!
One of my favorites. Definitely must return.
PLEASE let there be a season 2 of Sanditon. It has to have a happy ending!
I love all the characters in Sanditon! I want a second season to tie up loose ends and for Charlotte and Sidney to have a happy ending. You can't leave it the way you did last night.
