Date Set: When Does Sanditon Season 2 Start?
Sanditon Season 2
Was Sanditon cancelled or renewed for season 2? When does it start on PBS? Who will be returning for the new season? In this post, we have summarized everything we know so far about the next season.
What Is Sanditon About?
The TV series is a bold continuation of Jane Austen’s final, unfinished novel. Season 1 follows newcomer Charlotte Heywood’s arrival in town, and her budding friendships and romantic possibilities. Charlotte’s epic journey continues in Season 2, which explores the classic predicament of a young, independent woman making her way in the world.
Fans and friends, we’re thrilled to share with you everything we know so far about the upcoming second season of Sanditon! New storylines, new characters, returning faces (both good and devious), plus some early, sneak peek images to feast your eyes upon. Mark your calendars, set your reminders, and let the countdown begin for the premiere on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at 9/8c on MASTERPIECE on PBS.
Sanditon, the fan-favorite drama inspired by Jane Austen’s final, unfinished novel is back for Season 2, premiering Sunday, March 20, 2022, 9/8c. After the first season’s finale left viewers hanging in suspense, the story continues with its high-spirited heroine, Charlotte Heywood, returning to the picturesque coastal resort of Sanditon and the companionship of her friend Georgiana Lambe. What adventures, scandals, intrigue and above all else — romance — await Miss Heywood this season?
Joining the Season 2 cast: Ben Lloyd-Hughes (Industry) as Alexander Colbourne, a handsome and enigmatic local recluse; Tom Weston-Jones (Shadow and Bone) as dynamic Colonel Francis Lennox; Rosie Graham (Outlander) as Charlotte’s hopeless romantic sister Alison; Frank Blake (Normal People) as diffident Captain Declan Fraser; Maxim Ays (Still So Awkward) as Captain William Carter; and Alexander Vlahos (Versailles) plays Sanditon’s Bohemian artist, Charles Lockhart.
The all-new season picks up the action nine months after the end of Season 1, when some hearts were left broken, some were soaring, and the town’s future was not so clear. But time tends to heal most wounds. The town of Sanditon is growing in popularity as new faces arrive on the scene to join our beloved seaside community. After a tearful departure at the end of Season 1, Charlotte Heywood finds her way back to the beautiful seaside resort. Despite her heartache, her life moves forward, and she catches the attention of not one, but two new suitors in town. And Charlotte has not arrived in town alone; she is accompanied by her spirited younger sister Alison, who is starry eyed and on the hunt for her own love story. Meanwhile, Georgiana Lambe, on the cusp of turning 21, is as driven as ever to forge her own identity. Independent, outspoken, and rebellious as always, she finds herself once again up to mischief in the name of love. But will it be worth it? Sanditon’s grand visionary Tom Parker is doing all that he can to rebuild the town after the events of last season. But between unforeseen issues and the secrets and lies of the dysfunctional Denhams, his task is no easy one — perhaps even an impossible one. To top it all off, the Army arrives to make their new base in Sanditon, bringing new potential romances, friendships, and challenges for the residents we know and love.
You heard it here first: Season 2 premieres Sunday, March 20, 2022 at 9/8c on MASTERPIECE on PBS. There will be six episodes. You can also watch it via Apple, Comcast, Google Play, FandangoNOW, Verizon and Vudu. Plenty of your favorite Sanditon residents are back for the all-new season! Here are some of the Season 1 cast members you will get reacquainted with in Season 2. Rose Williams returns as Charlotte Heywood, who we last saw departing the seaside town with a broken heart. Crystal Clarke returns as Georgiana Lambe, a woman who wants nothing more than to lead her own life. Kris Marshall is back as Tom Parker, the optimistic but often overzealous dreamer and leader of the town. Anne Reid returns as Lady Denham, alive, healthy, and opinionated as ever. Jack Fox is back as the devious and not-quite-honorable Edward Denham, who was last on the outs with his aunt and his step-sister after trying to scam Lady Denham for her fortune. Charlotte Spencer returns as the strong-minded Esther Babbington, nee Denham, who found love at the end of Season 1. Lily Sacofsky also returns as the deceitful Clara Brereton, whose true nature was uncovered last we saw. Turlough Convery is back as Arthur Parker, Tom’s charismatic brother. Kevin Eldon and Adrian Scarborough also return as Mr. Hankins and Dr. Fuchs, respectively.
What would the lively town be without a few fresh, new faces arriving? Ben Lloyd-Hughes (Industry) joins the cast as Alexander Colbourne, a mysterious newcomer in town with a complicated past, and is one suitor after the attention of Charlotte. Also fighting for her affections is war hero Colonel Francis Lennox (Tom Weston-Jones, Grace), the self-assured, starkly opposite to Colbourne. But will Charlotte be ready for romance, again? Rosie Graham (Outlander) joins the gang as Charlotte’s sister Alison, another young woman with big dreams of her own, who is setting out on her first adventure away from home. Catching her eye is the handsome and charming Captain William Carter, played by Maxin Ays (Still So Awkward), one of the new Army soldiers settling into town. And the new Army pals don’t end there: Frank Blake (Normal People) joins as Captain Declan Fraser, who’s a bit rough around the edges. Lastly, Alexander Vlahos (Versailles) will play the striking Charles Lockhart, an artist who has come to paint some of the more…well, shall we say, fashionable folk of the town.
Get ready for more sand, more sun, and more beachy vibes! According to Somerset Live, filming for the second season spanned across the rolling hills and coastline of the scenic, southwestern English county. Dare we say…could any place be better suited to set the scene for the fictional resort? Season 1 was filmed in a number of historical locations, from St. James Church in Littleton, to Bowood House, to Dyrham Park and Iford Mansion. Please bring another season of Sanditon. Jane Austen would never leave any major characters dangling at the end of her novel. Please don’t let that happen with Sanditon.
I echo everyone. Give us a Season 2…..
Nooooo!!!! We want Season 2!!!!
We want season 2 this is a great show with wonderful characters
Please give us a season 2. It's so unfair to leave us hanging.
I cannot believe this! We are left dangling! Please series 2! So ???? heartbroken!
Season 2 is a must. The developing love story with Sidney and Charlotte deserve
A true Jane Austen ending. How could this not be a success for PBS. Hope these comments can influence a positive decision.
Season 2 Sanditon is a must. The unfinished love story of Sidney and Charlotte must be realized. Jane Austen
Would have the ending no other way.
PBS hopefully will embrace this beautiful love story for the Season 2. Such a pity if we abandon Season 2.
I look forward to Sunday just because of Sanditon. How can anyone not love a Jane Austen story. The acting is wonderful, the setting great. How sad if there isn't a season 2
Sanditon…great production. We fans in the U.S. want another season. How can such a rich, quality story, and performances be abandoned!
Oh no. This is so sad. There are so many ends to tie up. There has to be (at the very least) a holiday film to conclude all of them. A full 8 episodes would be great but I would settle for a two hour film. Just please finish the story with a proper ending. We are begging you PBS.
I love Sadington! We must have a season 2 in order to finish the story of all the fascinating characters! Please?????
Bring us Sanditon season 2 please. Just when I really like a show it gets dropped. Loved it!
Love Sanditon!!! Can’t wait for Season 2!
Come on, PBS and Masterpiece. You cannot leave us hanging like this – PLEASE bring back Sanditon for Season 2, and 3, and . . .
Please have a season 2. Jane Austen would not have wanted Sidney and Charlotte to be left dangling. The production was great and the acting wonderful. Everyone I know watching is begging for Season 2.
Really ? I mean come on really? No season 2? This is abominable.
What a terrible ending
I feel there would b plenty of support for at least a season 2
We must have a season 2, it a awesome show and it’s something different, and we need different
This could be another Poldark or Downton Abbey. Excellent acting. Please continue. I am a Pbs provider.
Please, please, please bring it back!!!!
Please do Sanditon 2. We need to finish this series as first series left us high and dry.
I have been a fan of Jane Austen for years and have enjoyed Masterpiece Theater's adaptations of Austen's books since the first "Pride and Prejudice" in the late 1970's. "Sanditon" is another exceptionally entertaining adaption of an unfinished work. I have binge streamed it several times already and I am extremely disappointed that there will not be a season 2. There are too many unfinished storylines. I truly hope you will reconsider, please!
Please reconsider the cancellation… I ordered the DVD for my women’s club … most of whom love Jane Austin but had not heard of the series. They went wild for it and we have talked of little else since binge watching the series and it’s unsatisfying conclusion. Please, please, please, finish the story as Jane would have.. i know that my Women’s group, neighbors and friends at work who were not clued in for season 1 ..but know know about it … will be add exponentially to the season 2 viewership!
I was channel surfing when I came upon Sanditon airing it's first episode on PBS. I fell in love with the characters and story line much like I did with Pride and Prejudice. When it became available on DVD, I ran to purchase it. I told co-workers about the show and they are hooked as well. Charlotte and Sidney's love story can not be tossed away to oblivion. "Sometimes people throw away something good for something better, only to find out later that good was actually good and better never even came close". Please continue Sanditon's journey to fruition.
Please bring Sanditon back.. season 1 was well done and there has to be more to the story!
I also loved the Sanditon series and hope it will continue for at least one or more seasons. It has a wonderful story and excellent actors. I think it could it could be as popular as Downton Abbey and/or Poldark. Please give us another season or more.
Please, please, please bring back Sanditon for a second season! I love the cast and the storylines. Sidney and Charlotte must have a proper Jane Austen ending!
That was the most horrible ending of any series on PBS/ITV. Sanditon should have a chance to redeem itself with a Season 2. Until the last episode the show was captivating. Very disappointed indeed. V/r
Omg I was so upset last night! Was excited about was next! Please bring Sandition back
Not fair to leave everything dangling. What happens to Sidney's ward, Miss Lamb? Does he really dump Charlotte to marry a wealthy arrogant woman who dumped him in the past? Is the only person possibly rewarded with happiness is the one who was married to Lord Babbington? Does the resort actually get built after Sidney sacrifices to reward his brother who really is a doofus? Very unsatisfactory.
