Date Set: When Does Sanditon Season 2 Start?
Sanditon Season 2
Was Sanditon cancelled or renewed for season 2? When does it start on PBS? Who will be returning for the new season? In this post, we have summarized everything we know so far about the next season.
What Is Sanditon About?
The TV series is a bold continuation of Jane Austen’s final, unfinished novel. Season 1 follows newcomer Charlotte Heywood’s arrival in town, and her budding friendships and romantic possibilities. Charlotte’s epic journey continues in Season 2, which explores the classic predicament of a young, independent woman making her way in the world.
Fans and friends, we’re thrilled to share with you everything we know so far about the upcoming second season of Sanditon! New storylines, new characters, returning faces (both good and devious), plus some early, sneak peek images to feast your eyes upon. Mark your calendars, set your reminders, and let the countdown begin for the premiere on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at 9/8c on MASTERPIECE on PBS.
Sanditon, the fan-favorite drama inspired by Jane Austen’s final, unfinished novel is back for Season 2, premiering Sunday, March 20, 2022, 9/8c. After the first season’s finale left viewers hanging in suspense, the story continues with its high-spirited heroine, Charlotte Heywood, returning to the picturesque coastal resort of Sanditon and the companionship of her friend Georgiana Lambe. What adventures, scandals, intrigue and above all else — romance — await Miss Heywood this season?
Joining the Season 2 cast: Ben Lloyd-Hughes (Industry) as Alexander Colbourne, a handsome and enigmatic local recluse; Tom Weston-Jones (Shadow and Bone) as dynamic Colonel Francis Lennox; Rosie Graham (Outlander) as Charlotte’s hopeless romantic sister Alison; Frank Blake (Normal People) as diffident Captain Declan Fraser; Maxim Ays (Still So Awkward) as Captain William Carter; and Alexander Vlahos (Versailles) plays Sanditon’s Bohemian artist, Charles Lockhart.
The all-new season picks up the action nine months after the end of Season 1, when some hearts were left broken, some were soaring, and the town’s future was not so clear. But time tends to heal most wounds. The town of Sanditon is growing in popularity as new faces arrive on the scene to join our beloved seaside community. After a tearful departure at the end of Season 1, Charlotte Heywood finds her way back to the beautiful seaside resort. Despite her heartache, her life moves forward, and she catches the attention of not one, but two new suitors in town. And Charlotte has not arrived in town alone; she is accompanied by her spirited younger sister Alison, who is starry eyed and on the hunt for her own love story. Meanwhile, Georgiana Lambe, on the cusp of turning 21, is as driven as ever to forge her own identity. Independent, outspoken, and rebellious as always, she finds herself once again up to mischief in the name of love. But will it be worth it? Sanditon’s grand visionary Tom Parker is doing all that he can to rebuild the town after the events of last season. But between unforeseen issues and the secrets and lies of the dysfunctional Denhams, his task is no easy one — perhaps even an impossible one. To top it all off, the Army arrives to make their new base in Sanditon, bringing new potential romances, friendships, and challenges for the residents we know and love.
You heard it here first: Season 2 premieres Sunday, March 20, 2022 at 9/8c on MASTERPIECE on PBS. There will be six episodes. All eight episodes of Season 1 are now available on PBS Passport, an added member benefit. With PBS Passport, you get extended access to a digital, on-demand library of more than 1,500 episodes of PBS favorites, including select MASTERPIECE shows. You can watch Sanditon Season 1 now on the MASTERPIECE Amazon Channel (available to Amazon Prime members for an additional monthly cost). You can also watch it via Apple, Comcast, Google Play, FandangoNOW, Verizon and Vudu. Also, you can buy the Season 1 DVD here, plus the The World of Sanditon: The Official Companion hardcover book here, both from Shop.PBS.org.
Plenty of your favorite Sanditon residents are back for the all-new season! Here are some of the Season 1 cast members you will get reacquainted with in Season 2. Rose Williams returns as Charlotte Heywood, who we last saw departing the seaside town with a broken heart. Crystal Clarke returns as Georgiana Lambe, a woman who wants nothing more than to lead her own life. Kris Marshall is back as Tom Parker, the optimistic but often overzealous dreamer and leader of the town. Anne Reid returns as Lady Denham, alive, healthy, and opinionated as ever. Jack Fox is back as the devious and not-quite-honorable Edward Denham, who was last on the outs with his aunt and his step-sister after trying to scam Lady Denham for her fortune. Charlotte Spencer returns as the strong-minded Esther Babbington, nee Denham, who found love at the end of Season 1. Lily Sacofsky also returns as the deceitful Clara Brereton, whose true nature was uncovered last we saw. Turlough Convery is back as Arthur Parker, Tom’s charismatic brother. Kevin Eldon and Adrian Scarborough also return as Mr. Hankins and Dr. Fuchs, respectively.
What would the lively town be without a few fresh, new faces arriving? Ben Lloyd-Hughes (Industry) joins the cast as Alexander Colbourne, a mysterious newcomer in town with a complicated past, and is one suitor after the attention of Charlotte. Also fighting for her affections is war hero Colonel Francis Lennox (Tom Weston-Jones, Grace), the self-assured, starkly opposite to Colbourne. But will Charlotte be ready for romance, again? Rosie Graham (Outlander) joins the gang as Charlotte’s sister Alison, another young woman with big dreams of her own, who is setting out on her first adventure away from home. Catching her eye is the handsome and charming Captain William Carter, played by Maxin Ays (Still So Awkward), one of the new Army soldiers settling into town. And the new Army pals don’t end there: Frank Blake (Normal People) joins as Captain Declan Fraser, who’s a bit rough around the edges. Lastly, Alexander Vlahos (Versailles) will play the striking Charles Lockhart, an artist who has come to paint some of the more…well, shall we say, fashionable folk of the town.
Get ready for more sand, more sun, and more beachy vibes! According to Somerset Live, filming for the second season spanned across the rolling hills and coastline of the scenic, southwestern English county. Dare we say…could any place be better suited to set the scene for the fictional resort? Season 1 was filmed in a number of historical locations, from St. James Church in Littleton, to Bowood House, to Dyrham Park and Iford Mansion. Why do you want to kill me? I need an ending to this…. a resolution for Charlotte. Of course the Brits were angry… you can't end a season like that. Finish Sanditon!!!
Yes, please have a 2nd season of Sanditon. Must find out what happens to all of the characters
I am truly heartbroken to hear this!!! It deserves a Jane Austen ending and that is NOT what we were given last night. Please please reconsider this decision to cancel!!
I was so hoping for a season 2. One of the best shows I've seen in a long time
I was about to delete my PBS/Masterpiece app because there was nothing else worth watching. Then, I found Sanditon and loved it. I would even rewatch episodes while waiting for the new one to air. Who is the mindless moron that made the decision to cancel Sanditon before it even aired in the U.S.? Of all the idiot shows that have multiple seasons, Sanditon just gets one. Unbelievable. It was one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time.
Best series ever!! Please bring it back for a season two. I could not get enough of this show and want to see more.
REALLY?? Season 2 is cancelled? Why bother with Season 1 just to leave everyone hanging? Not cool, PBS.
Please continue this series – you can't leave it like this!!!
Oh, please provide a continuation of this story. It's one of the very best I've seen on Masterpiece. I know Andrew Davies can continue this story, and with the support it's had in the US, it simply must go on. We wait for news there will be a second season at least. If Downton Abbey had multiple seasons, surely Sanditon deserves more.
Worse ending ever. With so many storylines there could be several seasons, some with happy endings.
I was saddened by the ending,so really looked forward to a season 2 where things could be resolved more happily.Where perhaps Susan would provide money to invest because of her friendship with Charlotte, and thus free up Sidney. I would hope it to be the original cast.
Excellent story line, authentic acting and beautiful costume designs. Looking forward to next season.
Please support season 2. This is not how any Austin story should be allowed to end. What an enormous disappointment to find Charlotte and Sydney were really victims torn apart because PBS didn't recognize the show's value and failed to deliver season 2
Season 2 SANDITON Please
I watched every episode, sometimes twice as it was played again on PBS. The final episode was so disappointing. It left me hanging after watching for weeks! Myself and all of the other viewers deserve a Season 2.
As a devoted viewer of Sanditon this is so wrong to end the Series like this. Charlotte and Sidney had a chemistry that deserved a "live happily ever after" ending.
Really, if I had any idea this would have been the way it ended I would have never watched a single episode.
This was a horrible ending. Seriously, have you seen the fans on Lifetime and Hallmark channels? I’m pretty sure everyone who tuned in did not expect such a crap ending. Season two needs to happen. The audience will be there
This was not a Jane Austin story. This is not how she ended her stories. A disservice was done by the new writer to her writing. Claiming lack of interest in the shows is a false comment. The US loved it, till the end.
Please finish it. That was not a Jane Austin finish please
There must be a Season Two for Sanditon. The Town completion and the Parker Brothers Success or Failures must be shared with the viewing Audience. The Actors were well chosen for their roles and Season One ended so abruptly without any closure for the Actors or Audience. Please allow Andrew Davies to complete his work on Sanditon for Season Two.
I believe Sanditon should have another season. It is so well produced and the actors are so wonderful. You can really feel the love that Sydney and Charlotte have for one another. I look ed so forward to each episode. Please renew the season. I look forward to watching a new season!
Has to be another season of Sanditon to do justice to Jane Austins previous works!!! Very unsatisfactory ending….Another season PLEASE!
Please support a 2nd season!!!! You made us fall in love with another Jane Austin novel and just because she didn’t have the opportunity to finish it you provided the saddest of all endings. You also left so many characters without endings to their stories. Everything doesn’t have to have a happy ending, but this series left me so sad and disappointed.
There must be a second season!!!!!
Please have season two!.!!!.!!
Way to abandon your streaming fans PBS!!!! Sanditon must have a Season 2 for a proper JA denouement!
Please please 2nd season of Sanditon!
Please give Sanditon another season to right the wrong given to fans! As loyal viewers, we deserved better then that heartbreaking ending! Please give us a happy ending! I would support your station if we loyal fans can get a happy closure. My heart is breaking and so disappointed!
Please provide a Season 2! So many here in the States have loved it and will watch it again!!!
Please bring Sanditon back for a second season. End it as Jane Auston would would have.
