Mars Season 3 Release Date on Nat Geo? Renewal Status and News
Mars Season 3
Was Mars cancelled or renewed for season 3? When does it start on NatGeo? Now that season 2 is over, fans are wondering if the show will continue for another season or not. In this post, we have summarized everything we know so far about the next season.
What Is Mars About?
This season on MARS, the story delves into the boundaries between science and industry on an isolated, unforgiving frontier. Throughout history, there’s been a constant tug of war between human motivations and interests with profitability on one end of the spectrum and exploration on the other. When becoming interplanetary, can humans break the chain, or are they doomed to repeat the same mistakes in this new world?
MARS picks up five years after the conclusion of Season 1, following the successful maiden mission to the Red Planet when the original International Mars Science Foundation (IMSF) crew struggled to safely land on and create an initial settlement. It’s now the year 2042, and IMSF has established a fully-fledged colony, Olympus Town, but they cannot finance the Mars expedition alone. Doors of opportunity have swung wide open to the private sector, but tensions arise among original mission-driven scientists and miners sent by the for-profit corporation, Lukrum Industries, which create a new world of challenges for everyone on the Red Planet.
On the scripted front, the series tackles seemingly everyday occurrences – pregnancy, break ups, new romances, epidemics, breakdowns, power outages, injuries, exercise, mealtimes and socializing. But when they occur approximately 34 million isolated miles from Earth – where there is no escape – they are anything but ordinary. And while the mission-driven scientists, who first set foot on Red Planet nine years earlier, initially are alarmed by their new neighbors, some soon find themselves understanding and comingling with ‘the other side.’ Life on Mars intensifies when scientists who are searching for new life get upended by Lukrum’s mining mission; the worst natural disaster hits home; the first-generation Martian baby enters the new world; and when loved ones draw their last breath.
The MARS cast is comprised of returning actors from Season 1 along with several newcomers, including Jihae (Mortal Engines), Jeff Hephner (Chicago Med, Code Black) and Esai Morales (Ozark, NYPD Blue).
On the documentary front, present-day vignettes draw parallels to the future happenings on Mars by looking at some of the dire issues facing Earth’s last frontier – the Arctic. This includes a spectrum of events that currently are compromising life on Earth – and could plague us in the future as we become an interplanetary species: drilling, glacial melting, rising sea level and indigenous health epidemics which surface when the permafrost melts.
On-camera experts – dubbed our ‘Big Thinkers’ – once again navigate the audience through the struggles and opportunities awaiting humans on Mars. This elite group includes some of the biggest names in human exploration, technology, the environment and social science, such as Elon Musk, SpaceX CEO; Andy Weir, bestselling author of The Martian and Artemis; Ellen Stofan, former NASA Chief; Leland Melvin, former NASA astronaut; Michio Kaku, theoretical physicist and futurist; Antonia Juhasz, leading oil and energy expert; Naomi Klein, bestselling author, activist and award-winning journalist on climate change; Casey Dreier, director of space policy at the Planetary Society; Lucianne Walkowicz, Astrobiology Chair at the Kluge Center of the Library of Congress and astronomer at the Adler Planetarium; and Bill Nye, CEO of The Planetary Society.

Nat geo sucks to bad no season 3 mars. Who makes the decisions? you suck
Netflix you have to pick up Mars show
Very sad indeed. Just binge watched seasons one and two on Netflix, and found this as I was searching for season three release dates. This show revolutionizes the television landscape with it's factually based science fiction drama. A show that inspires young people to ultimately help make Mars a reality for humankind should be continued.
Please ring back mars. Such an educational program which is desperately missing from television. What happed to teaching over ratings?
Can Nat Geo put it on the streaming channel for we who want to at least see season three.
Please continue another season of Mars. I love this show. Not only is it entertaining, it is educational. There are so few good stories of space and the future.
Nat Geo please bring back Mars for season 3. This is some of the best programming Nat Geo has created. Take this to the next step. Don’t let it end.
Mars is a really informative show !!
The drama in this show is filled with Lessons Learned. Cancelling this show is big mistake !!
I'm very disappointed to see there will not be another season of Mars. I found it to be very informative interesting and dramatic. Simply a great show I loved it I wish I had more.
Mars 2 failed by ending up in the common quagmire of human interest and emotions. No one managed to deal with the cardinal questions; is the human being fit to manage Earth or any other planet? What ever makes them take for granted that this planet and the rest of the universe belongs to them? Where are the self-improving intelligent machines, ready to substitute the vagaries of humans with pure intelligence?
NOOOOO!!!!! Why do great shows get cancelled and others more inferior go on!!!??? Are those who like shows like this,,,just severely outnumbered!!!???
I thought Mars was an amazing show and was looking forward to season three….extremely disappointed to hear that it’s been cancelled….
Truly inspiring series… Thank you.
I want more…please!
I can't believe with all of the junk TV shows being renewed, they cancelled a spectacular scifi series like Mars. This is a classic example of why the United States is so far behind the rest of the world in math and science!! There's just no public interest!
please renew it , best show that explain how life should be in mars , once we are there
This show is the best thing on tv for years. It has engaged my whole family with environmental issues and has us thinking how to build habitats on mars! This is such a refreshing and worthwhile change from the usual celebrity trash on tv. Season 3 please!
So disappointed in Nat Geo for cancelling “Mars" after just two seasons. Good shows like this seem always to lose out to drivel, even when they have strong viewer support. I had hope d NG would be different. Looks like they're not.
Am so disappointed. Been waiting and can't believe it was canceled. ????????
Was so looking forward to the continuing saga. Loved the actors and plot.
Never fails… Every time I find a show I like it always manages to get canceled. Seems like I can never win…
I really liked this show and was looking forward to Season 3. Very disappointed indeed for the cancellation.
I love the show and cannot wait for it to return. It gives us something to strive toward and it reminds me of what Star Trek did for us as far as innovation and new technology advances.
I love the show and cannot wait for it to return. It gives us something to strive toward and it reminds me of what Star Trek did for us as far as innovation and new technology advances. Do not leave us hanging, bring it back soon.
Mars is brilliant
Maybe Amazon will make season 3 happen. Wish NatGeo didn’t cancel this great show of theirs, was looking forward to season 3.
Bring back MARS for season 3. It's truly a great way to get the public ramped up to support a decision to send humans to Mars– which, I hope is imminent. I don't think it was always on Netflix, and it is now, so potentially a good sign!
SciFi Documentary. I had never seen anything like it! Real scientists talking about the future, today. Then you get to see it all acted out. Was amazing! Really hoping someone will pick it up and can bring the same quality. Loved the soundtrack too. Thought is was an old Jim Morrison/Doors song at first.
I too am really disappointed that this show has 'finished'… I have just watched season 2 on Netflix, and was glued (I enjoyed season 1, but I think season two upped the game). So to read that it has been cancelled is a major disappointment. There is a lot of mileage to be had here. Please Netflix, pick up the torch, or Nat Geo, reconsider.
Great show! They should keep it going.
I enjoyed the show. At first, I was skeptical of the show continuing judging from the beginning episodes. But i was pulled in by the end of the first season. By the end of season two, i was totally engulfed. It's a great show. Please reconsider the cancellation of season three.
