Date Set: When Does Sanditon Season 2 Start?
Sanditon Season 2
Was Sanditon cancelled or renewed for season 2? When does it start on PBS? Who will be returning for the new season? In this post, we have summarized everything we know so far about the next season.
What Is Sanditon About?
The TV series is a bold continuation of Jane Austen’s final, unfinished novel. Season 1 follows newcomer Charlotte Heywood’s arrival in town, and her budding friendships and romantic possibilities. Charlotte’s epic journey continues in Season 2, which explores the classic predicament of a young, independent woman making her way in the world.
Fans and friends, we’re thrilled to share with you everything we know so far about the upcoming second season of Sanditon! New storylines, new characters, returning faces (both good and devious), plus some early, sneak peek images to feast your eyes upon. Mark your calendars, set your reminders, and let the countdown begin for the premiere on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at 9/8c on MASTERPIECE on PBS.
Sanditon, the fan-favorite drama inspired by Jane Austen’s final, unfinished novel is back for Season 2, premiering Sunday, March 20, 2022, 9/8c. After the first season’s finale left viewers hanging in suspense, the story continues with its high-spirited heroine, Charlotte Heywood, returning to the picturesque coastal resort of Sanditon and the companionship of her friend Georgiana Lambe. What adventures, scandals, intrigue and above all else — romance — await Miss Heywood this season?
Joining the Season 2 cast: Ben Lloyd-Hughes (Industry) as Alexander Colbourne, a handsome and enigmatic local recluse; Tom Weston-Jones (Shadow and Bone) as dynamic Colonel Francis Lennox; Rosie Graham (Outlander) as Charlotte’s hopeless romantic sister Alison; Frank Blake (Normal People) as diffident Captain Declan Fraser; Maxim Ays (Still So Awkward) as Captain William Carter; and Alexander Vlahos (Versailles) plays Sanditon’s Bohemian artist, Charles Lockhart.
The all-new season picks up the action nine months after the end of Season 1, when some hearts were left broken, some were soaring, and the town’s future was not so clear. But time tends to heal most wounds. The town of Sanditon is growing in popularity as new faces arrive on the scene to join our beloved seaside community. After a tearful departure at the end of Season 1, Charlotte Heywood finds her way back to the beautiful seaside resort. Despite her heartache, her life moves forward, and she catches the attention of not one, but two new suitors in town. And Charlotte has not arrived in town alone; she is accompanied by her spirited younger sister Alison, who is starry eyed and on the hunt for her own love story. Meanwhile, Georgiana Lambe, on the cusp of turning 21, is as driven as ever to forge her own identity. Independent, outspoken, and rebellious as always, she finds herself once again up to mischief in the name of love. But will it be worth it? Sanditon’s grand visionary Tom Parker is doing all that he can to rebuild the town after the events of last season. But between unforeseen issues and the secrets and lies of the dysfunctional Denhams, his task is no easy one — perhaps even an impossible one. To top it all off, the Army arrives to make their new base in Sanditon, bringing new potential romances, friendships, and challenges for the residents we know and love.
You heard it here first: Season 2 premieres Sunday, March 20, 2022 at 9/8c on MASTERPIECE on PBS. There will be six episodes. Plenty of your favorite Sanditon residents are back for the all-new season! Here are some of the Season 1 cast members you will get reacquainted with in Season 2. Rose Williams returns as Charlotte Heywood, who we last saw departing the seaside town with a broken heart. Crystal Clarke returns as Georgiana Lambe, a woman who wants nothing more than to lead her own life. Kris Marshall is back as Tom Parker, the optimistic but often overzealous dreamer and leader of the town. Anne Reid returns as Lady Denham, alive, healthy, and opinionated as ever. Jack Fox is back as the devious and not-quite-honorable Edward Denham, who was last on the outs with his aunt and his step-sister after trying to scam Lady Denham for her fortune. Charlotte Spencer returns as the strong-minded Esther Babbington, nee Denham, who found love at the end of Season 1. Lily Sacofsky also returns as the deceitful Clara Brereton, whose true nature was uncovered last we saw. Turlough Convery is back as Arthur Parker, Tom’s charismatic brother. Kevin Eldon and Adrian Scarborough also return as Mr. Hankins and Dr. Fuchs, respectively.
What would the lively town be without a few fresh, new faces arriving? Ben Lloyd-Hughes (Industry) joins the cast as Alexander Colbourne, a mysterious newcomer in town with a complicated past, and is one suitor after the attention of Charlotte. Also fighting for her affections is war hero Colonel Francis Lennox (Tom Weston-Jones, Grace), the self-assured, starkly opposite to Colbourne. But will Charlotte be ready for romance, again? Rosie Graham (Outlander) joins the gang as Charlotte’s sister Alison, another young woman with big dreams of her own, who is setting out on her first adventure away from home. Catching her eye is the handsome and charming Captain William Carter, played by Maxin Ays (Still So Awkward), one of the new Army soldiers settling into town. And the new Army pals don’t end there: Frank Blake (Normal People) joins as Captain Declan Fraser, who’s a bit rough around the edges. Lastly, Alexander Vlahos (Versailles) will play the striking Charles Lockhart, an artist who has come to paint some of the more…well, shall we say, fashionable folk of the town.
Get ready for more sand, more sun, and more beachy vibes! According to Somerset Live, filming for the second season spanned across the rolling hills and coastline of the scenic, southwestern English county. Dare we say…could any place be better suited to set the scene for the fictional resort? Season 1 was filmed in a number of historical locations, from St. James Church in Littleton, to Bowood House, to Dyrham Park and Iford Mansion. For the love of Austen! What knucklehead thought it would be ok to not go ahead with season 2 and leave season 1 dangling. Please do justice to Austen' s last work.
We need to find out what happens to Sidney & Charlotte..Please Renew for a season two
I am in constant turmoil over Sanditon. I must have a second season to make sense of this story. Charlotte is in love and her love has to marry another. Jane would not let this story end this way.
I watch many programs on PBS, both informative and entertaining. You broadcast a show, Sandition, that gives us a glimpse of bygone days. It shows us of olden times, their manners, expectations, morals and desires. Shame on you for leaving us guessing on if there is happiness to hold for.
Agreed! This is NOT how any Austin story should conclude! This is a wonderful adaptation of Austin. It needs to continue! Please bring it back!
Why would you end a show this way and cancel it. This is the only show I have found worth watching in a long time. Bring it back.
I am truly heartbroken! I can't remember being more connected to a story such as Sanditon in a very long time. Sanditon and Jane Austen deserve a 2nd season and a continuation and resolution to the plots and story line. Such a disappointing ending. Charlotte and Sidney need to find their true happiness! Please bring back a second season! Truly loved it! Words can't even express how much!
Thank you for Sanditon, I enjoyed the series so much. I do look forward to another season to find out what happens to Charlotte, Ms. Lamb and all the other amazing characters. Masterpiece theaters has brought so many entertaining programs. Thank you again
Oh please bring it back !!!!
After investing time and viewing all 8 episodes of "season 1", I feel rather let down. It was definitely a very uncharacteristically depressing end for a Jane Austen piece. And so much of the story is left up in the air. Will Tom's Sanditon rise from the ashes? Will Sidney marry the rich widow he does not love, breaking both his and Charlotte's heart? What is Georgianna's future? These just a few plot points that will now never be addressed. Had I known this non-ending was the end, I wouldn't have bothered. Please, please, PBS, find a way to properly finish this!
I was devastated by the ending of season one. Always looked forward to Sundays to watch Sanditon. Please bring us season 2!
Why is it all the good shows are always canceled so disappointed
You must have a Season 2 ! I cried like a baby at the ending – it simply cannot be the end ! It must not !!! I haven’t been so invested in a period piece since Downton Abby.
I also feel that Austen would NOT have written Sanditon to end this way!!!! NOOOOOO. PLEASE give us another season. I LOVE THIS SERIES…….absolutely beautiful & sweet & full of Jane Austen & love.
As a long-time supporter of PBS, I must tell you how disappointed I am in this decision. What a beautiful and thoughtful production Sanditon is! A true masterpiece. You advertised this as the completion of Jane Austen's last and unfinished novel. You made us fall in love with the characters and care about what happens to them. Then you leave us with no resolution of anything whatsoever. You really didn't "finish" anything at all. And, in the process, you have dishonored Jane Austen herself. So disappointing. Please reconsider this decision. Respectfully ….
can't believe we're left hanging not having some kind of finish! Sad that it's just over! Please reconsider for a second season.
A second season of Sanditon please. You can’t leave PBS fans and Jane Austen fans with that heart wrenching ending. Fix this!!!
This is beyond sad. I was so hoping for Sanditon Series 2. I am a Jane Austin fan and so enjoy a any writings of hers put into a series. PBS please rethink this for all of us Jane Austin fans.
I really enjoyed Sanditon and want to see a second season to see where the characters go from here. We were left with so many unanswered questions! I hope that Masterpiece/ PBS will continue this series for at least one more season to give it the closure it deserves.
What are you thinking?????? You can't weave a story line that has us invested in these individuals riding away in a carriage!!! When you leave us without a fulfilling conclusion to the time we have spent loving these lives you have woven for us…. It makes me less likely to trust you with my time again. Just saying!
Just finished watching Sanditon. Best series ever, top story and acting. Jane Austin's best works. Important series 2 returns, need to know ending. Please return!!
I would love a Season 2. I love Theo James and would like to see what happens between him and Charlotte. Money or love?
Come on! It’s Jane Austen for pity’s sake!! She has never had a book flop nor has any adaptation ever not been remade over and over again theatrically. The story was slow to start and focused more on the stories of supporting characters and the town. But, the last 3 episodes is where the viewer started to bond with the characters. Who wasn’t happy to see Esther married and she wasn’t even like-able. Please give viewers more seasons, how will we survive an election year without a good period romance!
I’m so disappointed that PBS has cancelled Sanditon after an ending that leaves us hanging! More please!
Wait… WHAT? Why have Susan give us hope for a new investor?!? Why leave this great show unfinished?!
I enjoyed the show and would like it to be renewed. The beautiful costumes, sets and the setting of this time period was exceptional!!
Shame to leave viewers up in the air!!
Just watched episode 8. I’m absolutely gutted upon seeing we‘re (apparently) not to have a proper ending to this beautifully wrought series. Admittedly it was a slow and slightly awkward start but the last 4 episodes have won me over. I’m feeling wretched at the lack of foresight – there’s such drivel on every other station this is one of very few shows that has a claim on multiple seasons. Poor Jane!! What a horridly un-Austenesque ending.
Please have a season 2 Sanditon. You left so many fans wanting a happy ending.
Please bring this back, you must give us a season 2
There must be a Season 2 or conclusion to this wonderful story! Jane would be proud of the work done to bring Sandition to life. But it must be completed, Jane would want it completed. With the wonderful story and actors, Sandition was brought to life but not to complete the story would be tragic.
