What Is Power Book III: Raising Kanan About?

Power Book III: Raising Kanan is a prequel set in the 1990s that will chronicle the early years of Kanan Stark, the character first played by executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson.

The latest project in the “Power” set of series, “Raising Kanan” will follow the character of Kanan — a now-dead series regular that 50 Cent played in the original series — during his earlier years in the 1990s. 50 Cent’s return to the franchise with the theme song for a show dedicated to his old character serves as wink to fans who have kept up with each show.

“Power Book III: Raising Kanan” is expected to premiere in the summer of 2021. Mekai Curtis takes up the mantle as Kanan, while Patina Miller, Omar Epps, London Brown, Malcolm Mays, Shanley Caswell, Lovie Simone, Toby Sandeman, Joey Badass and Hailey Kilgore round out the rest of the series stars. Quincy Brown, Ade Chike Torbert, Natalee Linez and Annabelle Zasowski play recurring characters in the series, which is created and run by Sascha Penn. Alongside Penn, Courtney A. Kemp, Mark Canton, Chris Selak, Danielle DeJesus, Shana Stein, Bart Wenrich and Kevin Fox also executive produce the upcoming series.
