Netflix added many of these relevant shows with gratuitous sword-based fighting, warring families and plentiful sex scenes in just the last few years, so it’s also safe to say the popularity of “Game of Thrones” is at least part of the reason Netflix gobbled up these shows in the first place.

3. “The Tudors”, A dramatic series about the reign and marriages of King Henry VIII. Creator: Michael Hirst, Stars: Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Henry Cavill, Anthony Brophy
4. “The Last Kingdom”, As Alfred the Great defends his kingdom from Norse invaders, Uhtred – born a Saxon but raised by Vikings – seeks to claim his ancestral birthright. Stars: Alexander Dreymon, Ian Hart, David Dawson
