Kids Are Growing Up tells the intimate story of Charlton "The Kid LAROI" Howard who went from an unknown musician living in Australia to a teenage global superstar selling out his hometown arena on back-to-back nights in just three years. The film captures a unique moment in time, as LAROI enters adulthood, navigating the pressures of rapid fame, struggles with his mental health, first love, and the tragic death of his mentor - the late great Juice WRLD. Cameras began rolling before the massive success of "Stay" and continue as LAROI gears up for his first world tour and studio album. As LAROI is forced to deal with problems greater than his age, he searches for what happiness truly means, and how to handle outsized expectations from the public, those closest to him, and himself.

Amazon MGM Studios announced the feature-length documentary Kids Are Growing Up, about global superstar and Grammy Award-nominated singer-songwriter, The Kid LAROI, produced by OBB Pictures, the film and television division of OBB Media. Directed and produced by fellow Grammy Award nominee and OBB Media founder and CEO, Michael D. Ratner, the film chronicles LAROI’S life and musical journey from his upbringing to his global rise to fame. The film includes interviews with LAROI, as well as some of his esteemed mentors and peers in the music industry including Justin Bieber, Post Malone, and more, and will be available to stream on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide on February 29.

“Thank you to the incredible teams at OBB Pictures and Amazon MGM Studios for their support in sharing my story,” said Charlton “The Kid LAROI” Howard. “I can’t wait for audiences to see this behind-the-scenes portrayal of my journey, which perfectly encapsulates some of the most rewarding and challenging years of my life and career so far.”

“LAROI’s story is truly inspirational. While he’s just 20-years-old, he’s managed to change his circumstances through his artistry and drive, while navigating anxiety, grief, and a variety of issues that his audience can relate to,” said Michael D. Ratner. “At OBB we strive to partner with the most talented people in the world and we’re so honored that LAROI and his family trusted us to tell this incredible story. We also want to thank Amazon for being such great partners as we continue to collaborate on stories that are both entertaining and impactful.”

“Over the span of just a few years, The Kid LAROI has catapulted into a world of global stardom,” said Courtenay Valenti, head of film, streaming, and theatrical at Amazon MGM Studios. “This documentary explores his meteoric rise to fame and his personal triumphs and tribulations along the way. We are thrilled our global Prime Video customers will have a front row seat for this one-of-a-kind story.”

Kids Are Growing Up is produced by OBB Pictures’ Michael D. Ratner, Scott Ratner, Kfir Goldberg, and Arlen Konopaki.

After competing in a local competition in 2016, LAROI earned respect from industry executives, whose support led him to perform on stages alongside the late JuiceWRLD, whom he considered a close friend and mentor, THEY, and more. In 2018, he recorded his debut EP 14 With A Dream, and watched standout “Blessings” take off. Additionally, a well-timed freestyle over Drake’s Tay Keith-produced “Nonstop” added fuel to LAROI’s trailblazing fire, while his smash hit “Stay,” which spent six of its 17 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100, provides just a glimpse of what’s in store.

Most recently, OBB and Amazon MGM Studios teamed up for Justin Bieber: Our World, which scored a 2023 Grammy Award nomination in the category of “Best Music Film.” On the heels of the nomination, the continued collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios and OBB Pictures showcases the hunger for authentic storytelling from the world’s most prominent and talented artists. Ratner also directed and executive produced via OBB Pictures the record-breaking documentary series Justin Bieber: Seasons, as well as the critically acclaimed 2021 SXSW opening night headlining documentary series, Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil.
