The Doom Patrol isn’t done with the weird just yet! See what the team’s been up to in Season 2, starting with 3 new episodes on June 25.

On Thursday, June 25, your favorite misfits will return to the DC UNIVERSE with the premiere of Doom Patrol Season Two, starring Diane Guerrero (Crazy Jane), Brendan Fraser (Cliff Steele/Robotman), Matt Bomer (Larry Trainor/Negative Man), Joivan Wade (Vic Stone/Cyborg) and April Bowlby (Rita Farr/Elasti-Woman). After working tirelessly to defeat Mr. Nobody (Alan Tudyk) and save The Chief (Timothy Dalton), the Doom Patrol are back to investigate the world’s weirdest phenomena, with new episodes debuting every Thursday.

What is The Doom Patrol?

Doom Patrol is a team of traumatized and downtrodden superheroes, each of whom has suffered a horrible accident that gave them superhuman abilities but also left them scarred and disfigured. The members of the team have found their purpose through The Chief and have come together to investigate some of the world’s weirdest phenomena. After The Chief mysteriously disappears, though, the reluctant heroes find themselves called to action by Cyborg, who comes to them with a mission that they cannot refuse. Doom Patrol — part support group, part superhero team — is a band of superpowered freaks fighting for a world that wants nothing to do with them.

The connection between the “Wizard of Oz” and “Doom Patrol”

The team makeup of Morrison’s run resembles the main characters of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Dorothy Spinner is Dorothy (obvious), Robotman is the Tin Man (also obvious), Rebis is the Scarecrow (with his bandages standing in place of straw), Crazy Jane is the Cowardly Lion (she has wild hair and her arc involves overcoming her traumas) and the Chief is the Wizard (he holds power over the team but doesn’t take an active role on the field, is quite morally dubious and is depicted as a head, sometimes a floating one, following his decapitation). You could even stretch it a bit and say that Danny is the Yellow Brick Road, in that he’s literally a road that actively takes the team where they need to go.
