What Is Dexter: Resurrection About?

As part of its expanding DEXTER Universe, SHOWTIME announced the return of Michael C. Hall in the new series DEXTER: RESURRECTION and the previously announced origin story DEXTER: ORIGINAL SIN. The announcement was made by a surprise appearance from Executive Producer and star Michael C Hall (DEXTER, SIX FEET UNDER) alongside Executive Producer and Showrunner Clyde Phillips (DEXTER, NURSE JACKIE) at San Diego Comic Con during the DEXTER: ORIGINAL SIN panel, which is currently in production.

Golden Globe(R) and SAG Winner Michael C. Hall will return as Dexter Morgan in both series – he will star in DEXTER: RESURRECTION set in the present day and narrate the inner voice of a young Dexter (played by Patrick Gibson) in DEXTER: ORIGINAL SIN which takes place in the 90s.

DEXTER premiered in the fall of 2006 and ran for eight seasons where it captured millions of fans and instantly became a cult classic. At the end of its run, DEXTER was the #1 SHOWTIME original and since then, has been seen in encores around the world. Over time, it has built a rabid and loyal fan base in the tens of millions. In 2021, DEXTER: NEW BLOOD premiered, a limited series set ten years after the conclusion of the original, and instantly became SHOWTIME’s most watched and most streamed original ever.

All previous seasons of DEXTER and DEXTER: NEW BLOOD are now available for subscribers on Paramount+ with the Paramount+ with Showtime plan.

# Cast Update – Showtime Original Series “Dexter: Resurrection” Adds Emmy and Golden Globe Winner Peter Dinklage

SHOWTIME(R) today announced that Emmy(R) and Golden Globe(R) winner Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones, Avengers: Infinity War) will join the cast of the SHOWTIME(R) original drama series DEXTER(R): RESURRECTION, starring SAG and Golden Globe winner Michael C. Hall (DEXTER(R), Six Feet Under) in the titular role of Dexter Morgan.

Dinklage will play the series regular role of Leon Prater, a billionaire venture capitalist. To the world, Leon is a generous philanthropist, but behind his polished exterior lies dark intrigue. Previously announced cast included Uma Thurman, David Zayas, James Remar and Jack Alcott.

Production for DEXTER: RESURRECTION kicked off in January 2025 in New York and the series is set to launch this summer on Paramount+ with SHOWTIME.

Most recently, DEXTER(R): ORIGINAL SIN, a prequel series that follows Dexter (played by Patrick Gibson) as he transitions from student to serial killer, debuted in December of last year and delivered the most- streamed SHOWTIME(R) premiere in history with more than 2.1M global cross-platform viewers. The series is now streaming on Paramount+ with SHOWTIME.

DEXTER: RESURRECTION is executive produced by Emmy nominee Clyde Phillips (DEXTER, DEXTER: ORIGINAL SIN, NURSE JACKIE), who also returns to serve as showrunner, and produced by SHOWTIME Studios and Counterpart Studios. Michael C. Hall (DEXTER, Six Feet Under) also serves as executive producer along with Scott Reynolds (Jessica Jones), Tony Hernandez (Emily in Paris) and Lilly Burns (Russian Doll), with Marcos Siega (DEXTER(R): NEW BLOOD) serving as producing director. Monica Raymund (DEXTER: ORIGINAL SIN) is set to direct four episodes with Marcos Siega directing six episodes for the series. The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.

SHOWTIME(R) announced that Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine (The Lincoln Lawyer), Kadia Saraf (Law & Order: SVU & The Better Sister), Dominic Fumusa (NURSE JACKIE) and Emilia Suárez (Up Here) will join the cast of the SHOWTIME(R) original drama series DEXTER: RESURRECTION, as series regulars, starring SAG and Golden Globe winner Michael C. Hall (DEXTER(R), Six Feet Under) in the titular role of Dexter Morgan.

Mwine will play the role of “Blessing Kamara,” a rideshare driver who radiates unwavering optimism and a man devoted to his family and community. Saraf will play Detective “Claudette Wallace,” a razor-sharp investigator known for her methodical precision and unrelenting focus. Fumusa will play Detective “Melvin Oliva,” Claudette Wallace’s partner at NYPD who is the only one that understands his quirky partner. Suárez will play “Elsa Rivera,” Harrison Morgan’s vibrant and determined friend and co-worker at the Empire Hotel.
