What Is Castle Rock About?
Misery has arrived. Lizzy Caplan plays a young Annie Wilkes from Stephen King’s MISERY. In season two of this psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse, series combine the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland. The fictional Maine town of Castle Rock has figured prominently in King’s literary career: Cujo, The Dark Half, IT and Needful Things, as well as novella The Body and numerous short stories such as Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption, are either set there or contain references to Castle Rock.
The second season of the anthology series based on the works of Stephen King sets its sights on budding psychopath Annie Wilkes. A feud between warring clans reaches a boil when Wilkes, King’s nurse from hell, gets waylaid in Castle Rock while traversing the country with daughter Joy. A car accident leaves the mother-daughter duo temporarily stranded in the Maine town. While there, Annie — under a different name — seeks employment at a local hospital, and Joy starts to realize how disturbingly sheltered her upbringing has been.
