What Is First Day About?

It's Hannah Bradford's first year of high school. As a transgender girl, Hannah not only has to navigate the challenges that come with starting a new school, but find the courage to live as her most authentic self.

In her second year at Hillview, Hannah’s (Evie Macdonald) run for Class Captain exposes an underlying level of transphobia among her classmates. She starts a group for LGBTQIA+ students but risks alienating her closest friends in the process.

The ground-breaking and internationally acclaimed 4-part children’s series “First Day” is produced by South Australia’s Epic Films in association with Kojo Studios, and is directed, written and co-produced by Julie Kalceff.

In 2020, season one of “First Day” won an International Emmy Kids Award for Best Live Action Series, a GLAAD Media Award (Children and Youth) which honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the LGBTQIA+ community, and the Kidscreen Award for Best Live-Action Series.
