What Is Deadliest Catch About?
It’s the deadliest job on earth: crab fishing off the Alaska coast on the icy Bering Sea, home of the most violent waters on earth. During each crabbing season, a handful of adventurers will battle Arctic weather, brutal waves, and a ticking clock for a chance at big money in this modern day gold rush. Working around the clock, and often going days without sleep, this unique breed of men, part adventurer part fisherman, will set out upon an unforgettable odyssey.
Before complaining about the market price of Alaska king crab, check out this gripping documentary series, revealing the mortal perils and intense discomfort that fishing crews face on the Bering Sea to catch the delicacy. Those perils include 40-foot waves, 700-pound crab pots that can easily crush a careless crewman, and freezing temperatures around the clock.
In the wake of the global pandemic, half the crab boats of the Bering Sea fleet are tied up in Seattle. Now an existential threat faces the fishermen who make the long-haul trip to Dutch Harbor, Alaska, for the 2021 Crab season – a potential closure of the entire fishery. Crabbing isn’t just a way of life for the captains and their crew. This year, it’s a fight for the industry’s survival. If they’re going to make it work, the fleet will need to make sacrifices and band together across lines – even with long-sworn enemies. Their livelihood depends on it or they could potentially face the end of their careers. DEADLIEST CATCH returns with a season like no other before, streaming exclusively first on Friday, March 19 on discovery+, ahead of the season premiere airing Tuesday, April 20 at 8 PM ET/PT on Discovery.
It’s been a tough year for everyone, especially for the crabbing fleet in Alaska. Due to government-imposed lockdowns, Alaska Department of Fish and Game weren’t able to conduct their summer crab survey. Meaning this year, the captains will be fishing blind with no charts or guidance on where to find crab on the grounds – making an already challenging season even more difficult. It doesn’t take long for the captains to realize that they can’t start this season without a new approach.

This show keeps me on the edge of my seat. I love the gutsy bravery of these guys taking on the sea and the danger it has proven to be. I don't watch much TV but you can bet I will NOT miss a single segment of this show!! Please bring it back…I have been a loyal fan for as long as this show has aired!
One of the top 5 shows I watch. TV will not be as interesting without it. TV is about to loose me as a viewer if Deadliest Catch 17 is not renewed. I especially look forward to Hillstrands return

I am an "old lady" and Deadliest Catch is my most favorite show. My husband died of a stroke at the same time Phil Harris died of his stroke. I mourned for my husband and with Phil's sons. They are like family to me. I live in a sea fishing area in Northern Oregon and understand the dangers. Recently 2 crab fisherman were killed while fishing. I pray for the safety of all ocean going fisherman and women. God bless you all
